John Mayall, vocal, piano, guitar & harmonica; Buddy Whittington, incredible guitar work; Tom
Canning, keys; Joe Yuele, drums; and Hank Van Sickle, bass; comprise John Mayall and the
Bluesbreakers.
The band has changed many times over the many years, but one thing remains consistent
throughout: excellent musicians, songs and blues. This release does not deviate from that
formula.
Recorded in February and March of this year, I can't even guess how many albums this band
has released, but I have quite a number of them, and this is right up there with the best of them.
While Mayall's voice wears on me after a while, each song has its merits. "Demons in the Night,"
a song about waking in the middle of the night, and your dreams now seem real. Excellent tune,
one that I'm sure we can all identify with. Other highlights for me include "I Thought I Heard the
Devil," and "The Mists of Time."
Mayall is prolific writer, and records regularly, so I know there'll be another one soon, and I'm
already looking forward to it!
